Client Post Brothers Apartments

Location Philadelphia, PA

Scope 3,000 SF

The Atlantic Building, a former office building, sits directly across the street from The Kimmel Center for Performing Arts on Philadelphia’s Avenue of the Arts.

The building was acquired in 2012 for conversion to apartments and CosciaMoos Architecture was asked to design a new residential entrance in an area that was once the loading dock.

The sculptural form of the new entrance mitigates between the scale of the townhouse on one side and the former office building on the other. The paneled Cor-Ten steel skin plays off the traditional red brick motif in a modern and refreshing manner.

The second-floor gym space projects out over the sidewalk in an exaggerated gesture which makes the building more visible from all sides. The upper-level roof terrace is oriented to maximize views down the street over the sloped townhouse roofs below.
