This facility is intended to serve multiple organizations within the UMDNJ School of Osteopathic Medicine, including the New Jersey Child Abuse Research Education Service Institute and the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging. The new facility will include 50,000 SF each for clinical space and research laboratories within the 4-story structure, and combines the complementary programs of research and clinics. This combination of activities is a common theme for translational research facilities, but presents inherent challenges. The Facility must help abused children and the elderly feel secure and comfortable during treatment, while promoting the benefits of combining research and treatment in the same facility. The research labs in the facility will be state-of-the-art, and the overall facility is intended to achieve LEED certification.
